There are two main monasteries belong to Kargyud and Nyingma tradition, namely Gochhaling and Chuti (Chiri) Monastery in Yolmo Region. Lamas belong to Yarlung Dynasty and the clan of Buram Shingpa has been continuing the tradition of Kargyud and Nyingma as the successor of Gochhang Monastery and Chuti (Chiri) Monastery respectively.
The 6th Shamarpa Chhokyi Wangchhuk (1584-1629) visited Yolmo region during his visit to Nepal. At that time, he spent his time at Gochhang Ling Monastery and Chuti Monastery. Karma Chhosang, the main throne holding lama of Gochhang Ling Monastery and the 3rd Yolmo Tulku Tenzing Norbu, the head lama of Chiri Monastery organized the special religious program in honor of the 6th Shamarpa.
It is mentioned in the regional history of Yolmo that the 6th Shamarpa had bestowed blessing to those two lamas according to the both Kargyud and Nyingma traditions. Moreover, the 3rd Yolmo Tulku Topden Pawo, the head lama of Chiri Monastery was bestowed upasaka samvara and given a dharma name-Tenzin Norbu by Shamarpa.
In this way, the 6th Shamarpa became the main spiritual teacher of the both Gochhang Ling and Chiri monasteries and Jyangter and Konchhog chidue traditions. Many religious texts composed by the 6th Shamarpa during his stay in those two monasteries are available even today.
